Security Starts at Your Front Door

Fingerprint readerMany people think of security in terms of anti-virus, firewalls, passwords, and other forms of cyber security. Forward-thinking companies have strong cyber security, but also remember that their first line of defense is actually physical security.

That’s not to say that physical security doesn’t involve technology. In fact, it is technology that is providing more efficient, secure options for physical security. Gary Giambatista, Vice President of Operations at Control Temp, a division of BRAVO! Group Services, brings a vast array of experience in mechanical and electrical systems to help Control Temp provide the very best in physical security solutions.

“Control Temp partners with global leaders in the security industry to offer the most advanced security options to our customers,” says Giambatista. “Security is paramount to a variety of businesses, including large corporations, data centers, power companies, and facilities where restricting access to critical areas and confidential information is a chief concern. Control Temp can work with any type of system and provide any level of service.”

Biometric security solutions

Biometric security solutions include hand print scanners, thumb print scanners, and iris scanners — technologies that sound like something from a science fiction movie, but are very much a reality. Data centers, laboratories, and research facilities are adopting biometric security solutions to provide additional levels of security to protect corporate and consumer data as well as sensitive research that needs to be kept safe from potential competitors.

Giambatista explains, “Many data centers now are going to bio-readers so that you can’t just steal someone’s access card and enter the area. You actually have to put your thumb on the reader and then the system will read your card. For highly sensitive data and accounts, clients are looking for multiple levels of security as opposed to a simple card access system. Some even have highly accurate iris scanners in some areas.”

Physical access security solutions

Physical access security solutions can include vehicle ID sensors, license plate readers, gate controls, motion sensors, and cameras. In a recent project for an internationally-renowned golf course that often hosts the U.S. Open tournament, Control Temp provided a comprehensive solution to help the location control access and ensure security for its high-profile visitors.

“We installed multiple-lane access control with cameras and license plate readers to increase security at the vehicle access points,” Giambatista says. Commercial companies are also using vehicle access controls to monitor and restrict access to their properties. Utility and power companies must also employ multiple levels of access control. “You might have an automated system with a module on your car so when you pull up to the employee gate, it automatically lets you in. You can’t even get onto a facility in many of these places unless you have that type of access control in your vehicle,” he shares.

Fire protection systems

Fire systems are another solution Control Temp provides to clients. Recently, Control Temp worked with a major sports stadium to implement an addressable fire control device system. Addressable devices get their own description and number, allowing for pinpoint accuracy so personnel can see exactly where the alarm or issue is occurring — enabling fast and efficient response to any issue without endangering fans or causing panic among thousands of spectators.

IP conversion

“Many of the camera systems in place are analog, so we go in and update them to network cameras, each with an IP address, so you can have a fully integrated system that provides centralized monitoring by authorized staff,” says Giambatista. If your security personnel are off-site and want to see what is going on at the facility, the system software lets them access information through a secure dashboard.

“Personnel can also receive alerts on their computers or phones that can tell them where a security issue has occurred, and they can use the camera system to check what the actual issue is,” Giambatista says. Converting to an IP system provides efficient monitoring and greater automation, requiring less personnel and creating a cost savings.

Control Temp: Your security partner

Control Temp starts by ensuring its own technicians are secure. All Control Temp installers are background-checked, drug-tested, security-verified, and carefully screened.

Our technicians have up to 15 years experience working with these systems, and are factory trained and certified on most systems offered. Installers are OSHA certified as well and receive ongoing training and certification in all areas. Giambatista says, “Everyone that comes on site is going to be someone you can count on.”

By starting with a partner you trust, you can rest easier knowing you have the best security solution for your business and the most secure provider.
